2025: The State of Police [Year in Review]

While Chicagoland saw federal violence descend upon its neighborhoods, the many law enforcement agencies of Illinois and its localities compounded it with violence of their own.

Broadview’s “Unified Command” effectively ran interference of protests against the Staging Area/de facto detention center, seemingly to protect it. It was to the point where the Assistant Director of ICE’s Chicago field office called one of Unified Command’s agencies a “difference maker…and we are grateful for their leadership” in a 10/5 email. The main agencies involved were:

-Broadview Police Department (BPD)
-Cook County Sheriff’s Office (CSO)
-Illinois State Police (ISP)
-Northern Illinois Police Alert System Mobile Field Force (NIPAS MFF)

Meanwhile, Chicago Police (CPD) de facto assisted in crowd control during ICE/CBP raids in various neighborhoods, even when CPD were themselves tear gassed. This, in addition to kettling and the antagonizing of some anti-ICE protests in the city, occasionally forcing flashpoints.

This is a personal photo collection of police occupation, accelerating a world falling apart.
