The Special Response Teams are intended to be DHS’ special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams, conducting high-risk raids and serving high-risk warrants targeting alleged criminals. On Friday, they faced off against college kids with poster boards, Christian pastors, and abuelas trying to deliver medication to detainees.
“Remember that you have an obligation to not follow unlawful orders,” the Marine Corps veteran said in a message directly to individual Guard. “Every [service]member has a responsibility to disobey unlawful orders.”
“Protests are important, but protests won’t do much if they’re not followed up with other types of organization,” said General Strike Illinois’ Abigail, who was part of the horizontally-structured group that organized the Fest.
“This staging facility was not designed to house detainees for even a night, yet there have been reported and confirmed cases of individuals held in the facility for more than a week,” said Nadiah Alyafai of the Arab American Action Network.
"He has threatened...to bring troops , federal troops, to Chicago. For what?"
“No one really plays the Legend of Heroes games,” explains Rebone, “so when I get a strong reaction from those songs, it is really awesome! Honestly, most of my jazz gigs never get strong reactions to the tunes I am playing so I was just taking in all the cheers!”
Ironically, these series of inequalities and medical ailments – that Rush admits trans people suffer from – are now likelier to affect the minors it is now denying coverage to.
“Frequently, the oppression…against LGBTQ people is used as an excuse for American imperial adventures,” said Andy Thayer of the Gay Liberation Network. “And make no mistake, gays are oppressed in Iran, as they are around the world. But the last thing this country should be doing to support LGBTQ people is bombing them.”
Protesters chanted against ICE and CPD, with one protester performing “traditional Spanish folk dance” on the line.
The new generation can’t afford risks; it graduates with obscene loans, can’t find a career, yet endures. And on Thursday night, it vibes.
