“Thousands of people have been detained, including children,” Harrison continued, her voice beginning to tremble, “which breaks my heart because my children are biracial. And it could be one of them that could have been taken.”
“This staging facility was not designed to house detainees for even a night, yet there have been reported and confirmed cases of individuals held in the facility for more than a week,” said Nadiah Alyafai of the Arab American Action Network.
“The fight - it is in the [Chicago City] Council, it is in the courts, but it’s in the streets. It is in our neighborhoods to make sure that we don’t allow these cowards to come and terrorize us.”
